Prof. Dr. Rudolf Blankart is Director of the business unit sitem-insel Promoting Services and Professor of Regulatory Affairs at the KPM Center for Public Management of the University of Bern. Within the scope of his research activities, Prof. Blankart carried out various national and international projects in the fields of health services research, health systems and the incentive effects of regulatory measures. Due to his research activities at internationally renowned universities such as Brown University (USA), Imperial College (UK), Universität Hamburg (DE), Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich (DE) and his affiliation to The Commonwealth Fund and his advisory role at the OECD, Prof. Blankart disposes of a strong international scientific network. In Switzerland, Prof. Blankart was appointed as an expert on the German health system in the expert group on cost containment measures convened by Federal Councillor Berset. In addition, Prof. Blankart is a core member of the Round Table of Antibiotics under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Jean-Claude Piffaretti. As a special offer for small and medium-sized companies in the medical device industry, he organizes the quarterly MDR Solution Panel (formerly Swiss MDR/IVDR Forum).

From 1999 to 2006, he studied industrial engineering and management with a focus on health care management and technical chemistry at the Technical University of Berlin. From 2006 to 2009 he worked as a management consultant at CTcon GmbH. He then worked at the Institute of Health Economics and Health Care Management at the Helmholtz Zentrum München and at the Hamburg Center for Health Economics (HCHE) of the University of Hamburg. Before taking up the assistant professorship of Technology and Quality Management in Healthcare at the University of Hamburg in 2012, Prof. Blankart was research-fellow at the Centre for Health Policy at Imperial College in London. He also conducted research at the Commonwealth Harkness/B. Braun Foundation Fellowships in Health Care Policy and Practice at Brown University School of Public Health, Providence, RI, USA.
